Detached Youth Work

IRL Pathways focuses on engaging young people where they naturally gather and spend their social time, building relationships to offer support, information and guidance on topics young people are concerned about. This approach helps youth workers connect with young people who may not otherwise engage with support systems, such as schools, formal youth provision and statutory bodies.

Key priorities are supporting young people directly in their communities and empowering them to access wider services.  Sharing information and knowledge about local opportunities helps to provide access to all young people.

IRL Pathways will:

  • Develop strong, trusted relationships within local communities

  • Establish long-term project delivery that allows meaningful partnerships to form

  • Provide regular, visible presence in communities, giving young people time to engage at their own pace

  • Create a space for young people to express their views to shape future local developments

Overall, IRL Pathways demonstrates how consistent, relationship-based outreach can create meaningful impact while improving how detached youth work can develop access to additional provision and opportunities.
